At St Francis of Assisi we have four Year 3 classes and three Year 4 classes. Year 3 marks a transition in our learning philosophy and sees students engaging in a more collaborative and shared style of learning focussing on individuality and social/emotional development while balancing an explicit direction instruction approach in literacy and mathematics.

Students have a bank of  iPads to engage in the digital environment, enhance their technological skills, use technology to enhance learning experiences and learn how to be responsible digital citizens.

Children engage in a range of subjects with a clear focus on Numeracy, Literacy and Science.

In Literacy, a structured approach to literacy is adopted and consists of the explicit instruction of phonics, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, fluency and text based units of work.

In Mathematics an explicit instruction instructional model as well as an inquiry instructional model is evident in engaging and dynamic classrooms.
